About

Arts Major is a child of the pandemic and an old man of old men. Once ago we wrote about being in our 30’s, and that was after writing songs about our 20’s, but time marches forward and now it’s 40’s – how about you? Ani Difranco once said, “People used to make records, as in the record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room. Now everything is cross marketing. It’s about sunglasses and shoes, or guns and drugs. You choose.” People playing music in a room, this is what resonates so clearly now some 25 years after Ani sang those words in a room. As seasoned players, friends, colleagues, comrades, activists, and allies, we see our place in the musical landscape as not a vector for fame or recognition, but much more simply, as a way to gather together in temporary community formations on a landscape that bears the sorrow of the displaced and murdered.
